This arch in Japan is not a bridge but a hydraulic gate to prevent flooding.

Completed in 1970, the Shirinashigawa river floodgate at Osaka Bay was built to prevent flooding in the region and cost about $28 million. The floodgate is actually part of a set of three gates on the tributaries of the Old Yodogawa River.

Due to overflow and aging problems, Osaka Prefecture has decided to dismantle the gate and spend about $313 million to rebuild all three gates into rolling ones. The project plans to be complete in 20 years.

This yacht has a huge void in the center.

Rome-based Lazzarini Design created a 226-foot (68.9 m) superyacht concept called Shape, which features a streamlined silhouette and a huge cavity in the center. In addition to a glass-bottomed infinity pool on the top deck, there’s also a helipad for easy entry and exit, and a waterfront beach club with a diving platform and more sun lounging areas at the stern. The yacht has six VIP suites on the first deck that can accommodate 12 guests, living quarters on the second and a command cabin on the third.

The Shape is powered entirely by clean energy, with a propulsion system that runs on hydrogen and a large solar panel on the sun deck that charges all onboard amenities.
