West-Eye Health Group – Message from Chairman

In 2004, we started with a couple of my colleagues to provide services in the field of Ophtahmology, in a medical center in the heart of Izmir. Today, we continue to be the solution for all major eye diseases with a team of over 250-personnel, a hospital and 3 branches solely in Izmir.

After the opening of our Çankaya center in Izmir we gradually sustained our growth path and planned a year later the opening of our first branch in Hatay – Izmir in 2005 and again one year later in 2006 our Sirinyer –  Izmir branch.

In 2007 we expanded beyond the borders of Izmir and opened our Diyarbakir Hospital whilst seeing a continues growth in the number of patients we served througout all hospitals and branch offices year after year.

After the opening of our Diyarbakir Hospital we started reviewing investment options abroad. As a result of this research we opened our first hospital aboard in Bucharest – Romania under the brand name of West-Eye Hospital in 2010. We still continue to serve Romanian people today with a crew of 35 people in a beautifull hospital in the heart of Bucharest.

In 2011, another investment option materialized in Erbil, Northern Iraq where we established a full-fledged hospital, also  under the name of West-Eye Hospital. In this region we have started to offer medical services to both local citizens as well as the settled Turkish population in that area.

In 2014, being aware of the potential in the area of Northern Iraq, we have established another hospital in Sulaymaniyah in order to meet the increasing demand for Ophtahmology.

In 2015, we have focused our attention on Istanbul and started offering services by opening our first branch in Altunizade on the Anatolian side of the city. The enhancement efforts in our Istanbul hospital are still in progress. In addition to this we are also eyeing other growth options in Istanbul on the European side which we have planned to open in the coming years.

We continue to sustain our investments related to Medical Tourism as a part of the sectoral guidance and incentives of the Ministry of Health. Our aim is to provide the best service to foreign patients visiting Turkey and thus contributing to the promotion of  our country.

Among the other ongoing projects, we have recently also agreed to start hospital projects effective 2016, in Batman and Manisa. Two projects in areas with great potential that personally excite me a lot.

As you can see over the years Batigoz & West Eye Health group grew significantly to a size now, that requires a fully equipped corporate team to manage it and further develop the business for the future.

In 2015 and owards, we will continue to grow with solid steps with this specialized corporate team in the lead who joined us as part of our institutionalization efforts along with our transfer to Istanbul.

We sustain our services with the aim to establish patient-doctor relationships with empathy. We also continue to increase the number of our hospitals, using the latest technology and know-how available and providing all necessary training and support to our medical staff creating a work & service culture which serves all our patients needs.

Cataract
Cataract is an eye disease which starts with clouding of the lens and cause significant reduction in vision. It is 90 % age-related, however a secondary cataract might occur due to some traumatic diseases, uveitis, use of some medication like steroids.

Glaucoma
Glocoma (its known as eye pressure in common) is a serious eye disease for people over 40 mostly. It may develop gradually within years and damage optic nerve which allows gives us the ability to see.

Retinal Tears and Retinal Detachment
Retina has a contact with vitreous gel inside of the eye. Vitreous gel is homogeny, tight, support the retina and pushes outer tissues such as choroids and sclera in healthy eye.

Uveitis
This is an inflammation of the layers of the eye. The jelly-like material in the center of ball-shaped eye is surrended by 3 different layers.

Oculaplasty
Some changes may occur on eyelids caused by aging such as eyelid bags, outgrowth skin and wrinkles at the outer corners of the eye as known as goose’s feet.

Strabismus
This is a critical situation which occurs due to the incoordination with the movements of the eyes or in the situation visual axes are not parallel to each other.

Dry Eye
Usually our eye is lubricated and moisturized by the tear film . Tear film makes our eye comfortable and moisturizes but sometimes tear can be inefficient or quality of tear might be very weak which leads Dry Eye.

Contact Lens
Contact lens is alternative solution for glasses which are used for refractive disorders. They are also used for cosmetic and treatment.

Keratoconus
Cornea is the outer layer of our eyes that protects our natural lens and give us a clear vision by determining the refraction of the light.

Presbyopia
Presbyopia is a gradual lose of focusing ability of the lens on near objects. Because of some changes in our eye muscles, the shape of the lens is also affected. Presbyopia starts at the mid 40’s and finally affects everyone.

Corneal Transplantation
Keratoplasty is an operation in which the foremost transparent layer that is defected for some reason is changed with a healthy corneal tissue derived from a donor.

Neuro Ophtalmology
It is a discipline dealing with common diseases of the eye and the nerve system. Our vision is comprised of perception of the eye firstly and perception of visual center located in the back of the brain.

Lacmiral Duct Occlusion
Liquid that humidifies eye flows through lacmiral duct to inside of nose. Usually occlusion of lacmiral sac leads to Lacmiral Duct Occlusion disease.

Macular Degeneration
It occurs as we age. It gradually advances and might cause central vision loss or a black point in our visiual field. Smoking, Genetic disposition or unhealthy nutrition are also risk facts of macular degeneration.

Blepharitis
This is a common inflammation of the eye lids with dry eye or bacterial infections. Some kind of skin conditions may also cause inflammation of the eyelids. It occurs where the eyelashes are.

Conjunktivitis
This disease which is know as “Pink Eye” occurs due to an inflammation or infection of the transparent membrane (conjunctiva) that lines your eyelid and covers the white part of your eyeball.

Color Blindness (Daltonism)
Color blindness does not mean visual loss or full blindness. Deficiency in the way we see color can cause this problem in our vision. Some certain colors can not be distinguished properly such as blue and yellow or red and green.

Laser Eye Treatment
The worlds most widely used method of laser treatment is Lasik. After local anesthesia, a very thin flap under which laser lights are applied to correct the refractive errors is created and put back into its place. Patients feel no pain during 4-5 minute

Amblyopia
If an eye can not carry out proper visual acuity, it must be due to the amblyopia or with its common name “Lazy Eye”. It might be inherited infancy disease which require an urgent exam and treatment in children. Since those children are at the risk, their

Cornea
The cornea is the transparent, dome-shaped window covering the front of the eye. It is also protective membrane for the retina. There are no blood vessel which makes the cornea transparent and shiny. It is nourished by the nerve endings in the Limbus.
