There are lots of new features in this version, which follows the Live 9 release over four years ago. Yes, there were updates in between, but this represents a jump forward.

It’s certainly enough to earn a spot among our best beat making software opens in new tab. Ableton Live 10 features a very capable system which offers great complexity while managing to remain intuitive to use thanks to a clear and well designed interface. The years of experience that have gone into getting to this version of Live are pretty clear right from the outset. The new Collections panel, at the top of the Browser, features seven color-coded filter folders where you can place anything from samples and devices to projects and presets — all for quick access.

A nice customization feature that can help organization and speed up workflow. The Wavetable synth is a powerful new tool which offers two wavetable oscillators, a sub oscillator, two filters LFOs and envelopes, plus the ability to expand its UI into the main window for ease.

Other features include low and high pass filters, distortion, reverb and a graphic to show everything clearly for clear delay timing and easy feedback. And on the topic of complex arrangements, track group nesting helps manage large Live Sets. Overall, a lot of small, subtle enhancements really do lead to a step change in the Live experience. Some device envelopes and filter responses are now shown graphically on the Push 2.

Firstly, some graphical displays within Live are now shown on Push 2. Live 10 brings some graphics from screen to Push, such as envelopes and filter curves. Simpler gets ADSR display for filter, volume and pitch, and a filter frequency graph. Compressor now sports a scrolling level display on the Push mirroring that on screen; in fact, the Push display shows about twice as much elapsed time as the window in Live. A display of the transfer curve would have been nice, but is not at least not yet supported.

I am hoping that these issues get addressed in update releases. Push 2 now shows an overview of a MIDI clip, which helps when step sequencing. When it comes to sequencing, the Push 1 and the Push 2 both get a boost. Push 2 users get an additional major upgrade in the sequencing department: MIDI clips are now shown graphically in the device display.

The entire clip length can be displayed, although a zoom control allows closer inspection, while a grey indicator line shows the note s selected for sequencing and the time region allocated to the pads. Like most major software releases, Live 10 includes numerous small improvements on top of the headline features. These include:. A stylistic update to the user interface accompanies numerous workflow improvements, curated sound packs, new instruments and effects, and a more fully integrated Max for Live experience.

Prices include VAT. Push Ups Some device envelopes and filter responses are now shown graphically on the Push 2. A capture button grabs the MIDI played into any tracks with monitoring enabled, attempts to determine the tempo and loop points, and creates a set of Session clips. MIDI note chasing is implemented in the Arrangement, which is useful when you start playback in the middle of clips that make use of long drone notes.

As an aside, I should mention that any editing done on Max for Live devices can now be recovered reliably if Max crashes. However, Max for Live devices themselves are not preserved in backup versions. Pros Refreshed user interface. Better editing experience in the Arrangement View. Labelling by colour in content browser. Nested track groups. Improved sequencing and editing on Push controllers. Improved Max integration in Max for Live.

No need to break the flow to hit the record button. Simple and awesome. If you insist on talking about the more marketing-friendly features, then check out Wavetable, a fantastic synth in itself, and the new Live Packs. But the real value is in the more subtle features, the workflows, and especially those in Arrangement view. You could always build a hardware rig. Companies like Arturia make hardware drum machines, synthesisers, and sequencers, and of course there are very trendy modular systems.

Hardware is limited, but sometimes creativity will come from this. Ableton Live DAWs. Best freeware of the month: August For low-end processing, the Boom knob controls the amount of tuned resonant low-pass filtering Hz applied, with the Decay control extending the length of the resulting tone. Despite its lack of compressor tweaking, Drum Buss is very usable and sounds fantastic.

Shiny new devices are all well and good, but what the Live faithful will be most interested in are the improvements made to the UI and workflow.

At the top of that particular pile is the amazing Capture function. Although most would say it should never have been absent in the first place, Live 10 finally adds the ability to create Groups within Groups, with no limit in terms of numbers.

Oh, and the Browser now gives full access to Groups and their contents, too. Push 2 and, to a lesser extent, Push owners are in for a few extra treats with Live Hold a step pad to highlight all of the notes playing on that step in the bottom bank, where they can be removed if needed. Holding the Layout or Note button switches row 5 to the loop length controls. Automation lanes and chooser menus are now hidden in the Arrangement View by default, giving it a cleaner look and preventing accidental automation changes.

Flipping to the new Automation mode invokes said elements as before. Now, double-clicking an automation lane in the Arrangement or a Clip Envelope creates a breakpoint at the position clicked, and breakpoints snap to the horizontal grid by default when dragged, with optional vertical constraining.

Track grouping has also received a cree in the arm in Live In previous versions, this was one area where the program lagged behind more conventional DAWs such as Pro Tools or Cubase. Why would you want to do this? Well, there are loads of reasons.

You might, for example, want to have all the individual tracks for a drum kit recording grouped, and then combine these further with some percussion and drum machine tracks, so that you have a higher-level group containing all your rhythmic elements.

And now, in Live 10, you can. Groups can be any number of layers deep, which makes working abletob complicated sessions infinitely easier. The improvements Ableton have made in this department can help you make music much more quickly and fluidly. Chief among them is Collections, which sounds absurdly simple but can make a real difference. Collections gives you a set of seven colored labels or ftee, which can be attached to almost anything in the right-hand pane of the browser: Live Sets, devices, presets, files or folders.

Collection labels are not specific to a particular Set, so anything you label will always have that label attached, and individual items can bear multiple labels. Note chasing means that Live 10 playback will include not only notes that start посетить страницу источник or after the initial playback position, but sustained notes that began at an earlier point. Very handy if you use a lot of drones or pedal notes! In previous versions, all tracks had a single pan control; if the source material was stereo, moving this to the left or right changed the balance, and if you took it all the abletton to the left, both halves of the stereo file would appear in the left channel.

Right-click a Live 10 pan control, and you get the option to switch to Split Stereo Panning.
